WowArt!

Before I start on the main entry, let me just apologise first for the delay of this entry.
I don't think there should be any excuses but I hope, my four kids are good excuses for me altogether. Hehe.

We were invited by Nura to WowArt Learning Studio for a preview of an upcoming Christmas Programme.
Being an Art student in Secondary School, I was always more than excited when it comes to art & craft for my children. That was why, when Nura invited, I jumped at the offer. :D (Typical parent. Cannot resist such offers.Hee.)

Upon entering the studio, the professional and obviously dedicated trainers were so pro-active in warming up the kids and settling them down. I had brought the baby and the toddler along too therefore I had to 'park' the two strollers somewhere and the staff of WowArt had been very accomodating.

While I left the baby (who was in one of her best moods, thank God!) outside with my new helper, I couldn't help but notice how warmed up Marsya and Ryan already were with their surroundings and the trainers, who roped Elisya in the warming up activity, knowing that she falls half a year from the minimum age encouraged to participate.

Once the kids were settled, we mommies settled in the room next door and got ourselves ready for our activity. Boy, we took a reaaaaaaaaally long time to settle down. Shame on us! :p

Let me just slap myself here that, if not for that valuable lesson at WowArt, I would have forgotten the difference between Crayons and Oil Pastel. Let's just hope, Mrs Loo, my Art teacher will not be reading this. Heh.

So we were first told to draw any of the six items that our trainer, Gaz had written on the board for us. By the way, Gaz is a really talented artist who was really patient with us, mommies!! Out of the six items were these: House, Tree, Butterfly, Flower,Sky and Grass- the common items that we had drawn.

Guess whose?
Yes, yes, these are ours. The mommies. Age range? 28-33 :p
(Mrs Loo, please don't get angry. I have not been in touch with the artistic me for years! Hahaha. Like real. :p)

So anyway, Gaz said that the reason our pictures were so similar was because we had been programmed to draw those simple objects for the past 25 years, minimum! Sad, isn't it?

Therefore, trainers in WowArt will help our children to be creative and hopefully, stop all children from drawing houses that are square with a hanging door and only two windows. And a tree that consists of two arcs and bushy green patch that is assumed as the leaves. And a butterfly that ....oh well, you get it. Cos you draw them like that too, right? Hehe. Peace.

So right when we were embarassed by our own drawings, we had to use Oil Pastels to start on our project. Another slap-across-the-face-for-being-a-typical-mom session, for me, at least.

ALWAYS ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO BREAK THOSE OIL PASTELS, Y'ALL!

Why? Because when they're all broken, the children are able to get more texture in their drawing/colouring.
I had to remind myself time and again to stop scolding the kids from breaking them up. So sayaaaang!!!!
I could see my money fly if my kids were to do that in front of me. But, art is art ok. Art is supposed to be messy and has no rule. So, break them all up and make sure you draw nice lines and textures ok kids?

The different textures and lines you can get from a broken piece of oil pastel.

As we started with our project, we chatted non-stop and had to be reminded gently, many times that the kids were more well-behaved and on time than us. What can I say? This is one of the many ways for us to release some stress. :p

The compressed styrofoam boards we had to use for our project.

As usual, 'kena' tease cos I tease others a lot too. :p

Having fun as we learn! That's the way! :D (Another entry on this soon!)

In all, I'm glad my children had such a good experience at WowArt. I'm sure the trainers there have aroused their interest for Art  because since that day, all they have been doing at home besides playing is drawing and colouring!!! :D

Thank you, WowArt for the wonderful opportunity!
Thank you, Nura for the invitation and having us in your mind!
Thank you, Vivi for the beautiful pictures!
Thank you, Yati, Diana,Vivi and Nura for the great company!

Thank you, Marsya, Ryan, Elisya and Keisya for again, showing me that life can be as simple and beautiful as Art. :)
